Date: Dec. 17, 2014
Location: Sugar Land, TX

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) recently hosted a session of the 22nd District's Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC). The CYAC is a select group of high school students that meet with Congressman Olson to discuss various issues - this session focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Guest speakers of this session included: Dr. Jack Kushner, head of Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology at Texas Children's Hospital; Dr. Maria Bettini, research faculty in the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology department at Texas Children's Hospital; and David Brower, founder of Astro Technology.

"We are blessed to live in Houston where exciting and well-paying STEM careers are in abundance," Rep. Pete Olson said. "From NASA, the oil and gas industry, or working to cure cancer and save lives in the Texas Medical Center, we are at the epicenter for promising careers that contribute to the world we live in. Thank you to our guest speakers, Dr. Jack Kushner, Dr. Maria Bettini and David Brower; for inspiring these students to explore new possibilities in the STEM disciplines. It was great to see the excitement in the students' eyes as they learned about the many ways these areas of study can help change the world we live in."

In its fourth year, the CYAC consists of high school students from across the 22nd Congressional District in Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Harris Counties. #TX22CYAC
